Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy
For Authors
- Scope: AI tools may only be used in the writing process to improve language and readability.
- Responsibility: Authors must review and edit AI outputs; they remain fully accountable for the content.
- Disclosure: Any use of AI must be declared in the manuscript (statement included in published work).
- Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed or cited as authors; authorship is reserved for humans only.
- Figures & Images:
- Use of AI to create or alter scientific figures/images is not allowed (adding, removing, modifying features).
- Only allowed if part of research methodology (e.g., biomedical imaging), with full reproducible description.
- AI use in graphical abstracts is prohibited; AI cover art may be permitted with prior approval and proper rights clearance.
For Reviewers
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts and review reports must not be uploaded to AI tools (to protect confidentiality and privacy).
- Responsibility: Peer review requires human critical thinking; AI cannot be used for evaluation or decision-making.
- AI in reports: Even for language improvement, AI should not be used on review reports.
- Disclosure check: If authors used AI, disclosure will be found in a dedicated section before references.
For Editors
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts and related communications (letters, decisions) must not be uploaded to AI tools.
- Responsibility: Editorial evaluation and decision-making are human tasks; AI should not be used.
- Transparency: AI use by authors (if disclosed) is indicated in the manuscript.
- Violations: If editors suspect misuse of AI by authors or reviewers, they should notify the publisher.
